....as well as general nostalgic memories throughout time. for a little bit when i was perhaps about 12 I briefly believed I was one of the last surviving anime fans because I was coincidentally finding archaeological fandom dig sites rather than current hot spots. the year was 2009/10ish, so you can imagine how ridiculous that was.
a little past this, i remember frequenting a nearly-dead FMA forum as a lurker. i don't remember much about it except that someone-i think an Envy fan specifically, which is what iwas there for, reccommended a song by the band Papa Roach. to this day i dont think ive ever heard the song, but the band name stuck in my brain for like a decade.
i think there was a di gi charat oekaki board i lurked on too....
the point is, i love touching the ground and going 'it's abandoned'! i wanted to recreate a bit of that feeling.
by the way, green as a xe/xer user is only within this particular site, after a friend of mine mentioned that neopronouns were more popular than they/them around this historical time. in my head they use any pronouns but hover mostly in he/they/it.
i keep adding to the notes as i work lol. literally just pop that thing open when a stray thought crosses my brain. my ao3 notes are often also a million years long, why do you ask,
By the way, two images on the site are direct redraws of cgs from the ~NKNA series. One of them's probably obvious because it's a pretty iconic pose from heart/anniversary but one of them is from spade black, which is newer and untranslated so much fewer people are familiar with it probably.
most of the LB team is repurposed really old ocs. lemon, minty, cherry (who was a catgirl for real to start with and so HAS to be a furry here), and kiwi are all expys of ocs by (approximately) the same name from when i was like 13-5ish. olive (genuinely a robot in her home work) and cinnamon are college era ocs. The framing device characters, Bubblegum and Violet, can be considered a proto-Pink and Purple and are from around the same OCverse cluster as olive and cinnamon. ginger, the game's MC, was cherry's older sister in her origin work, and also a catgirl. But cherry and ginger are expys of cute anime girls baby kam saw, so.... do you see where the "web" framing comes from even before i planned this particular project? my personal encyclopedia of internal referencing gets characterized outwards as connections, soulmates, reincarnation or whatever.
it only sounds complicated because it's externalized. in my head this is all obvious, and i can just tell stories to myself about hot girls kissing without any extra complications.
for some reason i decided to call the actual oc story "the web expands" and the game in this work "the web extends". Or maybe vice versa. I love to delineate the very small differences between things and i also have a pretty bad memory. This wreaks havoc on my tumblr tagging for the main project this is a branch of.

re: the cramberlac comic, it's not made for this particular gamejam project, i grabbed it from my tumblr on a whim and said cinnamon drew it bc his style is closest to my own regular art. The lilac sketch from the preorder page is also an pre-yuri of absence art yoinked from tumblr, readable in full here! It's on a bit of a different timeline than presented here, but I believe the "lilac dreams about a different life each night and logs them in a big tome" is 'canon' to LB's Web as well.
poor cinnamon hates showing sketches and wips but i can only attribute my extraneous art to him..... lolol sowwy.
btw obvs she sucks but i dont think Lemon is like, irreedeemable after this. in my head after shutting LB she immediately like goes offline and runs away to work on a farm or something and after an adjustment period is genuinel doing good now. the other LBers think she's dead tho
re the t-shirt poll i lichrally put only 2006 and previous in my result filters for "poll html". historical dedication...
"lands beyond" is a phantom tollbooth ref, as is the reference to cherry as 'soundkeeper', as is the url "formilo" on framingdevice's tumblr. (speaking of urls while im here, aliceindeepforest is named for a cnkna ost with one of my fave songs on it ('whale') and Of Course the nkna fan would know about revived dating sim franchises. Detectiveerika is named for one of umineko's most iconically unpleasant characters. )
trying to make the jpegs extra crunchy on irl photos is reminding me of when i first started doing digital art and didnt know what a png was so i was like "it looks so GOOD in the art program!!!!!! why is it bad when i save it!!! :(" and then literally partway thru a video i made in high school (11th grade i think?) you can see exactly where i learned what a png was.
"hogmail.clom" gets me every time i pass by it for editing etc. i think if i used it more than once it would be overkill but its funny to me every time. i did it because i wanted something impossible to actually email but....hog mail dot clom ...... in this universe hotmail is actually called that.
i know i talked abt this before but the hannibal gold cg redraw also makes me laugh every time. the og one was already hysterical to me for having him be like toweling off from shower his top half but the pants were fully belted and done (tucking in ur shirt may be difficult now + you only dried half of your you???) but combining it with olive censoring pink's entire top half so NOTHING is visible just really gets me.
you can tell im doing final mistake check on news section rn.......
the quiz and partially the banner were made so asleepily in the night that i almost forgot i made them, and had a beautiful surprise.
